Tribute to My Aunty Lucy

To my dearest Aunty Lucy, you were always there for me. From the day I was born to the day you left me, you called me son. You have a special place in my heart.

You taught me how to play cards, j’achete, rummy, patience, sette mezzo and of course poker which I remember great days, great fun and some all nighters.

I remember the parties at 26 Cumberland Road Pascoe Vale where you effortlessly cooked, prepared and cleared while guest and relatives enjoyed the fruits of your labour.

You played many roles in my life at the age of 3 you and Uncle Pino drove me to the hospital when I was run over by a bicycle and broke my leg,

I was pageboy at your Wedding in 1956.

You became my first employer at the age of 9 and paid me 1½ pence to wash your car, 1½ pence for mowing and weeding the garden which eventually turned into a business enterprise for a while with pay rises over the years, then during this time you became my banker keeping a small glass jar safe in a locked cupboard in grandpa’s room.

You were my smoke buddy when I was 15 and I do miss those conversations during the smoke sessions while you kept watch from your kitchen window in case my parents were coming. LOL

You became my protector on a number of occasions, you stood in front of me when danger manifested itself, you made sure I was safe and for that I will always be grateful.

But the one thing that bound us together was that you were my confidant and there was nothing that I did not tell or share with you, the good, the bad and the ugly. You knew me better than I knew myself; you kept all my secrets, never judged me and always supported me to be a better person, thankyou.
