Cherie Olive Letti Jackson
Born 21st December, 1928
Passed away 20th December, 2019.
It is with regret that we mourn the passing away of our Beloved Mother Cherie Olive Letti Jackson, formerly of Cairns and recently living in Tugun on the Gold Coast.
Cherie sadly passed away on Friday the 20th December, 2019 in unfortunate circumstances.
Cherie spent her mature years residing and living in Cairns and was married to Dan Jackson. After raising her 2 children she worked in many jobs mainly as a Bar Attendant such as the Mining Exchange Hotel in Abbott Street, the Races at the Cairns Turf Club at Woree as well as the Parramatta Park Trots.
Cherie loved her life in Cairns and would often reminisce about living life in the tropics.
Our Paternal Grandmother, Kathleen Jackson had a huge influence on Mum and they spent many hours walking around the Block enjoying looking at the Local Dress Shops and of course Clarke Shoes. Bolands was another added destination and in these early days Window Shopping was a real pleasure and it offered women of this era an opportunity to gaze at Frocks and Ensembles that were all manufactured in Australia.
Mum would often comment on how people in North Queensland, especially Cairns had a real passion for enjoying life and going to the Football at Parramatta Park to watch the Ivanhoe's play the Kangaroos was another enjoyable passion. Life was simple but everyone was friendly, kind and sincere.
Cairns is one of those rare places where you can live your life free from the hustle and bustle of city life but still enjoy all the benefits on offer. The scenery looking out towards Trinity Bay also helps one appreciate Cairns's beauty.
Danny and I would like to extend to all of those who knew Mum that she may have enjoyed living on the Gold Coast in her later life, but Cairns was where she really grew into the woman she became. The many friends she made were loyal, generous and supportive.
We are so deeply saddened by her passing and everyday we miss her more.
Respectfully, Danny and Karen Jackson.
