DOWNER, Kenneth

Kenneth Henry Downer
19 March 1935 - 21 April 2021

The St Kilda Basketball Club has lost one of its valued members with the passing of Kenny Downer who was an early member of the Club founded in 1959. Subsequently as an administrator and team member he became a driving force behind the development of the Club which grew to become the dominant force in Australian Basketball.
Ken also strongly supported the instigation and continuation of the Vets group of past players to keep their involvement with the Club and importantly to provide social interaction and support. As time moved us all forward basketball for the Vets was replaced by golf and regular games of euchre which to this day are played with the same determination and competitive spirit.
Ken's legacy is one of a strong and proud family man dedicated to all of life's tasks that he undertook, to which he remained loyal and committed until his final siren sounded.
He asked for so little but gave so very much to so many and we shall all miss him greatly.
