Quincy Jones
Remembering Quincy Jones: the legendary music icon, producer, and philanthropist whose profound influence spanned over seven decades and inspired generations.
This tribute is from the media industry; those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
In Loving Memory of Alex Pekish.
It is with profound sadness that we note the passing of Alex Pekish, a respected professional, cherished friend and esteemed member of the Australian media family.
Alex began his career as an accountant at Peat Marwick (now KPMG); however, his entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to pursue his own ventures, which saw him own and operate multiple hot dog stands, including a prominent one at Chasers Nightclub and later invest in a fish and chip shop called Mussels in Elwood.
These endeavours reflected his business acumen and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Drawn back to the dynamic world of media, Alex joined Media Decisions under Joan Ryan.
He later moved to Optimedia, where he played a pivotal role in securing major accounts such as Telstra, 20th Century Fox and Kellogg's.
After a stint at Ikon Communications as Head of Buying, collaborating with key clients like the Commonwealth Bank, Alex joined Mitchell & Partners (later part of Dentsu Aegis Network), where he managed substantial media budgets and led critical negotiations as the Chief Commercial Officer, including work on the Federal Government account.
After leaving Dentsu in 2019, Alex dedicated his expertise to consulting roles, notably with Media Republic. He also pursued creative projects, such as developing the animated series "The Bondi Crew" and generously offered mentorship and coaching to those entering the industry.
His significant contributions to the media industry were honoured by the Melbourne Media Industry Hall of Fame when he was inducted in 2022.
Alex will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to excellence, his insightful contributions to the media landscape and his warm-hearted nature.
His legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
You were a diamond, Pekka, and we will all miss your big smile.
Rest in peace, Alex.
Your impact on our lives and the industry will never be forgotten.
Go Pies!
