The CEO | Principal, Members of Council and the Haileybury Community are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Tom Poulton.

Tom was a Haileybury student from 1961–1966. His achievements during those days were many. He displayed a passion and talent for Literature and History, became a Probationer Prefect, was Platoon Commander in the Cadets, and participated enthusiastically in Sports.

Tom studied Law at the University of Melbourne from which he graduated LL B (Hons.). From there he established a distinguished career in the legal profession.

In 2008, Tom joined the Haileybury Council, and served as Chairman from 2009 until his retirement in 2023. During this time, he oversaw a significant expansion in the operations of the School and a strengthening of the students’ academic outcomes. Tom’s dedication, calm demeanour, forward-thinking mindset, intellect and wisdom were invaluable during this exceptional period of the School’s history.

Tom was the inaugural Chairman of the Haileybury Foundation, and provided ongoing encouragement and support for the Old Haileyburians Association.

He maintained a keen interest in all student activities, supporting the Arts, Speech Nights and Graduation ceremonies. He was a generous man.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Wendy, Robert, Alice and their families.
