SISTER MERLE FLANDERS (Born Fricke)
Merle passed away on 30 July 2018 after a long battle with Parkinson’s.
Merle was born in Bundaberg on 20 February 1938, the second daughter of Arthur and Emma Fricke.
After completing her schooling at Bundaberg High School she started nursing at the Base Hospital.
She also worked in Townsville at the Mater where she completed her nursing studies in 1960.
Merle spent most of her life in Townsville before returning to Bundaberg in 1988.
Here she worked for seven years as Practice Nurse at the Burnett Medical Centre, retiring in 1995.
She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2012 gradually deteriorating such that she needed help from a Care Worker. Merle is survived by four children, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. She still has one sister, Beris and two brothers, Ivan and Neville living.
