BEDGGOOD John Andrew

Geelong Grammar School remembers John Bedggood, an Old Geelong Grammarian (Cu’52) and member of staff for more than 30 years. John’s early teaching career included a stint at Bostock House (1955–56) before he returned to the School in 1964 to teach at Timbertop, where he passed on his fly-fishing skills to many boys and encouraged their musical interests. He was called to Corio in 1967 to become housemaster of Otway House, a position he held for 14 years.

Known for his deep appreciation of the English language, and his elegant and urbane writing style, John’s appointment as editor of The Corian in 1993 resulted in the production of superb publications.

His organisational talents were employed in his role as coordinator of tennis for eight years, and in 1983 he served as acting bursar and as President of the Common Room Association. In 1969 John married Robin (Robby) Lesh, one of the Middle School matrons, to whom and to their children Caroline and John, and their families, we send our sympathies.
