 20.1.1936 - 3.2.2019

James passed away at the Royal Hobart Hospital surrounded by family and his beloved wife of sixty years, Margaret.

A man of energy, ideas, loyalty, love and great achievement, the Mercury named him one of Tassie’s Business Movers and Shakers. James was Director of the Australian Antarctic Division 1985-1988. James and Margaret subsequently est-ablished the 9/11 Bottleshop chain, Fountainside Hotel and a number of other accommodation businesses. They purchased and expanded the Tasmanian owned Animal Tuckerbox chain. Together, Jim and Margaret donated the ’Heading South’ statues at Hobart Harbour; The Seals and Pengiuns in 1998 and the Bernachi Tribute in 2002.

J.B., with tears we saw you suffer. We watched you fade away, our hearts slowly breaking as you fought so hard to stay. You did not want to leave us until you were 110, but you did not go alone, for a part of us went with you.

He is survived by his darling wife Margaret, and their children Marcus, Karen, Louise (dec), Martin and Karl; daughters-in-law Susanne, Christine and Narelle, his brother, Leonard and five grandchildren, Katherine, John, Andrew, Erica and Emily, who will all miss him terribly.
