BRANDON, John Stamford.

Born August 2nd 1930.

Passed away peacefully on November 2nd 2024. Aged 94 years.

Dearly beloved husband to Margaret for 74 happy years. John was the much loved father of Christine, Philip, Micheal, Leonie, and Pauline, a loved father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather to a large extended family and he will be sorely missed by us all.

John was a high achiever in work and retirement. He began his work life at the age of 17 as an RAN pilot flying aircraft in Australia and the UK. In the 1960's, he started a successful corporate career at LM Ericsson , now Ericsson Australia, where he pioneered the application of computer technology to production control in Australia. He was a leader in the production of the Ericsson AXE automated telephone exchange system for Telecom Australia in the 1970’s, and the design and construction of a factory to manufacture printed circuit boards in the early 1980’s. Such a huge modernising and transforming contribution to telecommunication infrastructure.

In retirement and with the kids off his hands he was able to pursue his interests in birdwatching and gardening and return to flying, his first and enduring passion.

He and Margaret created a most wonderful garden in the Kiewa Valley, in the 30 years they lived there.

In 2008 John was awarded a Life Membership of Recreational Aviation Australia after many years of research into Aviation Theory and Meteorology and producing and populating a website for the organisation in 1999. The information John produced was so valuable and comprehensive that it has been used by fight schools in Australia and overseas ever since. In 2007-2008 he produced series of educational articles to help pilots understand flight risks and develop good practices.

John was well liked, loved, and respected by those whose lives, and careers, he touched.
