Jacobus Theodorus (Theo) Couwenberg, aged 97, of Cairns, passed away peacefully in the evening of March 13th, 2025, at his residence in Cairns. He was born on April 3rd, 1927, in Tandjung Balai, Indonesia.
Theo was a gentle, unassuming, easy-going man with a sense of humour that always lightened the mood. His life journey took him to various countries, but it was in Cairns where he felt most at home. He cherished the many friendships he formed also in the Cairns Indonesian-Australian Community.
He retired at age 60 as a Diesel Fuel Injection Specialist, eagerly dedicating his retirement to his true passion – painting. His love for art was evident in the vivid still life and portraits he created, capturing the essence of the world around him with his brushes. His works reflected his deep appreciation for nature and humanity, transforming simple moments into timeless pieces of beauty.
Theo is survived by his daughters Linda and Marijke and son Louis. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his eldest daughter Wiesje, his son Robert, his grandson Vincent and his beloved wife, Winifred (Wini) (Van Tol).
Rest in peace, Theo. Your art will forever be a reminder of your vibrant spirit and the beauty you brought into the world.
