Graham Gale Duffield (Gale), born at Townsville in 1932, died at Sunshine Coast on 10 February 2025. Gale was for many years a Townsville pharmacist, operating the family business Duffields' Pharmacies that opened in 1924; moving later to Brisbane as an Army pharmacist, before taking retirement on the Sunshine Coast. He spent a year in the early 1960s obtaining skills in hospital pharmacy in London, and later working in Zambia. He was active in the Army Reserve from 1955, and after 30 years became a Regular Army officer. He was heavily engaged in sailing, notably as a navigator in yacht races along the North Queensland coast; and in Rotary International, where with other Rotarian pharmacists he despatched many containers carrying much-needed medicinal supplies to Papua New Guinea - and received from Rotary its Paul Harris Award. In 1963 he married Nancy May Smith, a teacher from Yarraman, beginning an unbroken and devoted, partnership and friendship. Gale is survived by Nancy, his daughters Anita and Susan , sister Myrna, brother Lee, and their families.
