Quincy Jones
Remembering Quincy Jones: the legendary music icon, producer, and philanthropist whose profound influence spanned over seven decades and inspired generations.
Leslie (Les) David Howard was born on the 18th of March, 1958 in Ipswich, Queensland.
Raised by John and Edith Howard, Les used to tell the family stories about his childhood days, some were fun and some were sadly quite traumatic. He told us that he used to play a game with a young girl next door where they would throw bricks back and forth until one day she was hit and required a few stitches. This of course ended the game forever. Another time Les told us that he was scooped out of bed and thrown behind the family lounges during the night by his father who suffered from PTSD following World War II.
Les attended primary school at Silkstone State School followed by Bremer State high school where he graduated in 1975. He always had a keen interest in owning his own business which saw him graduate from Bond University in 1997 with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
Married twice, Les was a loving step-father, devoted father, father-in-law and Grandad.
Les was known for working smart, not hard. Didn’t want to mow the lawn? Buy a goat. Didn’t want to pay for electricity? Buy 10 solar panels and wire them into the grid. These tips which he obviously picked up from his time at University.
Les always had a passion for Chess. When he was first teaching his kids to play, he would thoughtfully remove the majority of chess pieces leaving only the Knight and Rooks, proving his skills as a player, it's safe to say he still won. On the weekends he enjoyed bonding over early video games and repairing computers with his Son. While Les wasn’t always the most perfect parent, he was a good Dad who did his best and would have done anything for his family.
Moving to the Philippines in 2015, Les had ambitions to explore new business ventures in the solar telemarketing industry, opening call centers in Cebu. A colourful character, Les was always on the lookout for the next big opportunity.
Suffering very poor health in his later years, he passed away on 2nd September, 2022, aged 64.
It's finally time to rest now Les, rest in peace.
