Nursing colleagues express their sadness and condolences to the family of Lois Ruth Johnson who passed away on the 24th of December 2022 after a short illness at Royal Perth Hospital. Prior to retiring in 1994, Lois is remembered as the Matron and Director of Nursing at Alice Springs Hospital from 1967- 1981 and at Royal Darwin Hospital from 1981 -1991, as a major nursing figure in the Northern Territory.

During her nursing career in the NT, Lois’ leadership contributed to many significant initiatives in achieving major changes for nursing services and nursing education. In her role on hospital and regional health management committees and the nurses board of the NT, Lois worked collaboratively to bring about the first formal Nursing Career Structure for nurses in the NT.
