Much loved father, husband, public servant, educator, pioneer and friend.
Abdul passed away peacefully in Brisbane surrounded by the loving care of his family.
Abdul spent over 40 years in the Northern Territory after migrating to Australia from Pakistan in 1970. Abdul played an instrumental role in improving education, awareness and rehabilitation towards drugs and alcohol in Aboriginal communities across the territory. He was also actively involved in the Muslim community throughout Australia, in which he worked tirelessly to create a better understanding between muslim and non-muslim communities. He also helped establish the Darwin and Alice Springs Mosques.
Abdul’s trademark was a contagious smile, living life completely and intensely.
Abdul was selfless, devoted and dedicated to his family, colleagues, friends and community. He was a good and decent man and was a tower of strength in times of trouble, wisdom in times of uncertainty, and sharing in times of happiness. He will always be by his family’s side.
Abdul will be dearly missed by those he touched. He left an indelible mark in the NT community.
A special thank you to the dedicated staff at the Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) Brisbane, and the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside for the exemplary support and care provided to Abdul and his immediate family.
Abdul is survived by his wife of 47 years, Saeeda and his children, Omar, Mona and Laila.
