DREW, Leslie Victor
22.09.1930 - 06.10.2019 Brunswick Boy from Start to End Les Drew was the eldest of three children to Victor Harold Drew & Jean Beatrice (nee Pitter) and grew up on Victoria Street then Blyth Street in Brunswick. Many friends from the neighbourhood remained life-long mates. Along with siblings Bill & Val, Les worked in the family business 'Vic Drew Used Trucks' - which continues as a cafe on the site in Ascot Vale as 'Old Man Drew'. In the 1950's, Greek immigrants settled into Brunswick and Les welcomed and assisted them in such a magnanimous, though humble manner, that many Melbourne Greek families have been personally touched by his service & speak with perpetual gratitude. Les married a pretty Greek girl, Georgia Salli, and they had three children - Jeanette, Victor & Angelique. Weekends were always spent out on car journeys around Victoria or on Les's treasured boat on the bay with friends. Les was a volunteer driver for the Red Cross for almost 30 years, a job that filled him with great satisfaction. On 'retiring', he attended to his affairs and travelled within and outside of Australia, including round the world again, England three times in recent years and to Greece in 2017 where he emotionally caught up with old friends. He has been a parishioner at Christ Church Brunswick for over 60 years and it is fitting his end of life is celebrated here.
