Monash University is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Emeritus Professor Alan Lindsay on 30 December 2023, aged 78 years.
Professor Lindsay was Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic) from 1997-2005 where he played a major role in the planning and strategic management of Monash’s global and academic program and created a strong platform for the education portfolio. Professor Lindsay also served as President of the University’s Academic Board for a number of years, was a member of the University Council and served on the boards of a number of University and external entities, including Monash College and Open Universities Australia. He also served as Chair of the Go8 Universities DVC (Academic) Group.
He was appointed Emeritus Professor in 2006, and continued to contribute his skills and expertise as a higher education consultant and adviser. In 2014, he was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to higher and international education.
Monash University acknowledges with gratitude the life and work of Professor Lindsay and extends its sincere sympathy to his wife Lorraine and his family on their great loss.
