John Lynch, a great man with a commanding presence, who always put his family and others first, died peacefully on 29 June at Hope Island QLD. Born 1934, the only child to Jack & Ena Lynch. Husband of 65 years to living angel Karen, father to Catherine, Peter, Jacinta, John, Gabrielle, and Nicholas. Loving grandfather (Pa) to Oliver, Katinka, Lucas, Otto, Eli, James, Isabella, Jonathan, Ari, Jacob, Koby, and Ruby. Great grandfather to Ivy.

Grew up a proud Woollahra boy, attending Waverly College, formidably representing the area in rugby league, and a one-eyed Roosters fan. John excelled academically at school and in Medicine at Sydney university. He commenced his hugely successful medical career at St Vincent’s Hospital, where he more importantly courted Registered Nurse Karen Maria Raagaard, who soon became his beloved wife. A move north to Byron Bay saw John build his first medical practice as the local GP and start a family with the birth of three of six highly individualistic children. The strong desire to create something bigger compelled John to move back to Sydney to study Pathology and create an incredibly successful business with three close pathologist friends. Raising a large family with the love of his life Karen was his greatest joy. He instilled strong Christian values in his children aligned to his altruistic life principles. Once retired, John selflessly gave back to society helping the homeless and those in need through his significant generosity of time and money. John loved volunteering at Mathew Talbots hostel and was often seen engaging the homeless throughout the City and Darlinghurst where he lived with Karen for many years. A Queensland resident through the later decades of his life, John dedicated his life to family, travel, golf and the church as a devout Catholic.

Generous, loyal, loving, humble, intelligent, selfless, hardworking, and a strong family man, John was larger than life. He was quick to help those in need in any way he could. A big man in stature, John had a presence that commanded respect with little demand. He was an entrepreneur with a stubborn streak and was ultra-clear on how he wanted things to be done. Even with the occasional hot headedness, he had the greatest ability to forgive and forget. He inspired those he taught and left a huge legacy in the pathology industry.

John lived life large! He was an entertainer, joke teller, accomplished world traveler, lover of fine food, champagne, chocolate cake and fast cars, real estate mogul, successful businessman, highly respected medico, avid boater, frustrated builder, cleanliness freak, keen golfer, one-time skier, wonderful husband, and the best dad in the world. Whilst being an incredibly accomplished man, his most loved achievement was creating a wonderfully close nit family. Right now, he is sitting next to God giving instruction on how to do the next great thing.
