MACKENZIE, Glenyss

With the heaviest of hearts, we celebrate the extraordinary life and sudden unexpected passing of Glenyss Mackenzie (Munt), loving sister to Nerolie Aujard, wife to Alex, mother to Brock and Taryn and grandmother of Scarlett, Ethan and Tyler.

Glenyss passed away in the early hours of Wednesday the 17th of February 2021, after fighting as hard as she could for three days.

Glenyss was the most amazing mother a son and daughter could have ever wished for. Her zest for life, love and devotion combined with her passion to chat (you always had to budget to arrive early and leave late whenever she was involved) to everyone and anyone was an element of what made her so endearing to everyone she met and special to us.

As a son and father you could not dream of having a mother and then a grandmother as devoted as she was to Taryn and I and then Scarlett, Ethan and Tyler. My greatest memories of her will be reflecting on those quiet moments when I just watched all of them interacting, often for hours and hours on end. The grandchildren were the absolute pride of her life. Throughout the last decade the joy they brought each other was amazing to behold and more than any parent could wish for.

Right now the depths of the sadness experienced by each of us is a true testimony to how much of an impact she had on our lives, and watching Scarlett spending hours and hours bedside talking to her, playing scrabble and card games while refusing to let go was as powerful a symbol of the impact she had on not only on her children lives but those of her grandchildren.

The last few days have been extremely difficult but we are also thankful for the opportunity to have been able to spend some extremely emotional, painful but on reflection joyful moments with her.

Is this fair? No, but life isn’t and all we can do is cherish every single moment we have with people that we love and who love us, don’t waste a minute, don’t shy away from sharing how you feel, and never let little differences keep you away from people you love.
