Quincy Jones
Remembering Quincy Jones: the legendary music icon, producer, and philanthropist whose profound influence spanned over seven decades and inspired generations.
Ordained a priest at St Patrick’s Cathedral, East Melbourne on 23 July 1961. He served as Assistant Priest at Healesville (1961) and the Parishes of Norlane (1962), Jordanville (1966), Ferntree Gully (1969) and Burwood (1973). He was appointed Parish Priest of Parkville Parish in (1974), Seaford Parish (1977), Ivanhoe East Parish (1985) and as Chaplain to the Repatriation General Hospital in Heidelberg. For over seven years he was the Deanery Co-ordinator for the Yarra Deanery in addition to his parish responsibilities which he undertook with enthusiasm, generosity and commitment. Fr Des was appointed Parish Priest of Castlemaine Parish in 1999 where he remained until 7 January 2009. He was appointed Pastor Emeritus upon his retirement. He passed away at Justin Villa on Tuesday 3 September, aged 90 years. The Archdiocese is most grateful for his service to the Church and will be remembered as a kind, caring and friendly pastor.
