Jean Memery

Chief Executive Karen Weston and staff at the Department of Education extend their sympathies to the family and friends of Jean Memery on their recent loss.

Jean was a highly esteemed educator known for her contributions to all levels of the teaching profession – classroom, school and system.

Employed by the department for many decades, she is well remembered by former students and staff at Darwin High School where she worked from the late 80s through to 2008 where she was a much-loved and respected member staff.

Jean was involved in the development of the Teacher Registration Board legislation, was the inaugural chairperson of the board and the first registered teacher in the Northern Territory.

Pivotal in development of NT teacher standards, Jean constantly worked to nurture the status of teaching of exemplary practice.

She will be thoroughly missed by the Northern Territory education community.
