A tribute to Simon Townsend, creator of Wonder World, celebrating his contributions to Australian children’s television and his lasting legacy.
Dennis William Muirhead passed away at home in Lightning Ridge, NSW, aged 78 years. He was born in Richmond, Queensland and lived on Saxby Downs station with his parents John Muirhead and Joyce Muirhead (nee Dennis), both formerly of the Clermont district, and an older brother Robert. They did their primary schooling by correspondence, then went to All Souls College in Charters Towers, where Dennis did well academically. He left school after passing his Junior Examination and thereafter led a varied life involving much travel and overseas residence, mostly in southeast Asia. He came to love the people of Cambodia and Vietnam and in later years was involved with helping farmers in Cambodia. He was a talented artist who worked for a time with Indonesian batik, jewellery and photography; the latter briefly during the Vietnam War. Dennis was cremated in Dubbo on March 11 and his ashes will be placed in the Charters Towers cemetery. He is survived by his brother, Robert.
