Jenny Nunan: 1942- 2020
Frank Nunan and family of Malanda announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and sister-in-law, Jenny Nunan. Jenny died peacefully at home on March 18 after a mercifully short battle with cancer. Due to coronavirus restrictions, Jenny was laid to rest in a small ceremony in Atherton, and her ashes will be scattered at home as well as returned to her beloved Wicklow Hills.
Born Jane Marie Grace, daughter of John (Jack) Grace and Sheila
Kelly, Jenny grew up on a hillfarm at Newpark, near the village of Donard in County Wicklow, Ireland. As the second eldest of eight siblings, she was her mother's right hand, and the family peacemaker. Embarking on a working holiday to Australia in 1963, she met her lifemate Frank in Darwin in 1965. They married in 1968, settling in to raise chickens and children at what was then known as "The 13 Mile". A move to Howard Springs followed, and then, after being told to leave the tropics, an epic trip south that ended up back in the far north nearly a year later. The rolling green
hills of the wet end of the Atherton Tableland reminded Jenny of her home in Wicklow, and the opportunity to own their own farm saw them settle into dairying at Millaa Millaa.
Retiring to Malanda in 1999, Jenny enjoyed volunteering and spent many hundreds of hours helping others. She was a keen fossicker and goldminer, and loved to travel, particularly to see her far-flung family - Gary and
Poppy in Darwin, Jacqui and family in Melbourne, and her brothers and sisters in Ireland.
Our thanks to the many wonderful friends who enriched Jenny’s life over her years in Ireland, Darwin, Millaa Millaa and Malanda - Jenny found joy in good company and lively conversation, ever ready with a cup of tea or her home-made Baileys. She will be missed by her husband Frank, children Jacqui and Gary, and grandchildren Avalon, Sofia and Poppy. In Ireland, she leaves her brothers Tim Grace, John Grace, Michael Grace and Paddy Grace, and sisters Brigid Daly, Sheila Grace and Mary Doyle.
In her last days, she found comfort in her Catholic faith, and the knowledge "I'll be with Mammy and Daddy soon."
