RAY. _ Ross QC. The Law Council of Australia extends its sincere condolences to the family of its former President, Ross Ray QC, a brilliant legal mind and a close confidant to many in the legal community. Ross served for a number of years on the Executive of the Law Council of Australia and was President in 2007/08. During his time as Law Council President, Ross was a steadfast champion of rule of law principles and particularly prioritised the strengthening of justice in the Pacific region. He was a driving force behind the creation of the South Pacific Lawyers' Association to assist the local legal profession and to promote rule of law principles across the South Pacific. He also served as the Association's Foundation Chair. Ross was passionate about improving Australia's legal system through education, particularly advocacy training. His many educational contributions included serving as a member of the Australian Bar Association Advocacy Training Council and on the board of the Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute. Despite Ross' distinguished career and lifetime of professional achievements he will be remembered as much for his character - his sharp wit, his down-to-earth insights, and his warm sense of humour. He will be deeply missed by the profession he gave so much to.
