Daphne was the youngest of 11 children born to Amelia and Charles Austin Solomons of Matara, Ceylon. At an early age, her grace, beauty, and charm, was evidenced in beauty pageants, modelling and magazines. Daphne was named the “Jewel of Ceylon”.
She was known as a great story teller. She would regale family history to all her nieces and nephews, including all the little details that the rest of us would forget.
After immigrating to Canada in 1972, she quickly had a large circle of friends in Vancouver. That included her former husband, Tin Chu Wei’s family. Her friends tended to be life long friends, including those made during her last 15 years at Columbus Towers. She was especially thrilled that Ho Ping recently brought her stuffed olives from Sri Lanka.
One of her core beliefs, were family and friends. Without fail she never forgot birthdays or milestones of friends and family.
Daphne was also a food aficionado. She not only knew all the best PLACES TO EAT, including the different menu items, but also the owners.
She loved getting together to make Christmas and Love cakes, and to make her delicate sandwiches. She would bring her own set of knives to ensure all pieces were cut perfectly.
Many friends and family were tasked with getting the right loaves of bread, to meet her exacting standards.
She had many friends in Vancouver, and around the world. Special mention to Brad at her Columbus residence and to Aprille and her extended family.
Pre deceased by brothers, Harry. Edward. Cecil, Clive, and sisters, Elna, Thelma, Gladys, and Marjorie. Lovingly remembered by sisters Lois and Esther in Australia.
