Quincy Jones
Remembering Quincy Jones: the legendary music icon, producer, and philanthropist whose profound influence spanned over seven decades and inspired generations.
Vale Daddy-O!
On Saturday 10 August 2024, our amazing father, Terence (Terry) Jack Summers left the building.
Loving husband to Marina. Father to Caron, Lynne, Jane and Julian. Grandfather to Max, Cam, Emma, Cam and Ethan. Great Grandfather to August and Sabine.
Born Wolverhampton, UK, 1929, he lived a rich and colourful life.
As our father, he taught us to be creative and always follow our own paths.
We could tell him anything and he never judged us. He was one in a million.
For those lucky enough to of met him, he was an unforgettable character.
Always irreverent, television agnostic and immune from outside influences as far as possible, Terry lived for his art.
His wonderful, often whimsical art will live on in public sculptures all over Brisbane and in many homes.
From a young age, he always had a pencil for drawing in his pocket. A lifetime of painting as well as countless exhibitions. At 67, Terry enrolled in a Batchelor of Visual Arts at Queensland College of Art.
There, he discovered his love of conceptual installation art, utilising scrap cardboard as his medium.
As a finalist (and peoples' choice winner) in the 2003 National Sculpture Prize, he addressed the social & political issues of detention of asylum seekers. He went on to spend countless hours teaching children in schools all over Queensland, how to be creative and the best use of waste cardboard and a glue gun there ever was.
Terry’s 2006 retrospective and new works exhibition at QPAC was a culmination of his voluminous life works and the public's continued fascination with it.
As a talented Chess Player, he was a formidable opponent. Always happy to have a game whenever the opportunity arose.
Terry requested no funeral, but a gathering, at a date to be announced later, to honour him and his life will be held. He will always live on in our hearts forever and we will miss him dearly.
If you would like to see a couple of his cardboard artworks - they seem to be here.- https://www.saatchiart.com/en-au/account/artworks/178694
