David was born to Louis and Katie Schneiderman on June 10, 1934, in Mile End, London.

He served in the British Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) from 1952 to 1954. In 1956, he married Geraldine Hart, and they had one son, Richard in 1969. The family immigrated to Australia in 1971 and settled in Hebersham, Mount Druitt in 1973.

David was a dedicated member of the Lions Club of Mount Druitt for 45 years. He served in many roles, including president, treasurer, and secretary. He was also a key member of the club's fundraising committee and helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Mount Druitt community.

The many awards and recognitions for his service to the community include:

  • International Association of Lions Clubs Key Member Award for exceptional service (1985)
  • Commonwealth Recognition Award for Senior Australians (2000) presented by John Howard MP, Prime Minister; Bronwyn Bishop MP, Minister for Aged Care; and Roger Price MP, Member of Parliament
  • Lions Club of Mount Druitt Life Membership Award (2001)
  • Australian Lions Foundation James D. Richardson Honour Award for Outstanding Service (2005)
  • National Day for Older Australians Recognition Award (2006) presented by Santo Santoro MP, Minister for Ageing; and Roger Price MP, Member of Parliament
  • Chifley Seniors Award (2006) presented by Roger Price MP, Chief Opposition Whip, Federal Member for Chifley
  • Australian Citizen of the Year Nominee (2009)
  • Lions Clubs International Melvin Jones Fellowship for dedicated humanitarian services (1995) presented by Prof. Dr. Giuseppe Grimaldi, President Lions Clubs International; and James T. Coffey, Chairman Lions Clubs International Foundation

David is survived by his wife Geraldine and Son Richard.

A loving husband and father, he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
