WALKER._ Ron. Yes a man of Melbourne and a man for the times. But he was also a person who was pragmatic and fair as a businessman, civic leader and supporter of major events and projects, who gave due recognition to the union movement and their members. He had no difficulty in endorsing or negotiating industrial agreements for the likes of constructing Crown Casino, the Grand Prix and the Commonwealth Games Village, that saw construction workers and services workers alike receive reasonable wages, conditions and allowances .
