DARLING, Elaine

Elaine Darling, Life Member of the Australian Labor Party, former parliamentarian, member of the Kawana Branch and trailblazer. Elaine joined the Labor Party in 1973, before becoming the first Queensland woman elected to the Federal Parliament in 1980, representing Lilley.

Elaine set a high standard of achievement for others in the Labor Party to aspire to: a life committed to community, family, social justice and to leaving Queensland better than she found it. Elaine is survived by her three children Mark, Russell and Vicky.

A service to celebrate Elaine’s life will be held at 1pm on Thursday, September 5th at Gregson and Weight Chapel, 159 Wises Rd, Buderim.
