Fr Brian Edward Harris OMI (11 April 1934 – 23 February 2023)
With great sadness, the Australian Province announces the death of Fr Brian Edward Harris OMI, on 23 February 2023.
Fr Brian was born on the 11th of April 1934 in Ipswich, Qld, and educated at Brisbane State High School and Ipswich Boys Grammar. Initially he worked as a primary school teacher, before working many years in the Queensland government services. Brian married Kathleen Mahoney in 1959, and they had 6 children.
After Kathleen passed away in 1981, Fr Brian responded to another call, joining the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and was ordained on 17th December 1993 at Deception Bay, Brisbane.
As an Oblate, he worked in parish ministries around Australia, and briefly in New Zealand and was known for his prayerful, gentle, and kind nature.
The Oblates extend their condolences to his children and grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Eugene’s Parish, Burpengary on Tuesday 7th March at 10:30am.
