Born 6th July 1964 in Dunedin, New Zealand. Evan attended Corstorphine Primary School; MacAndrew Intermediate School; and a subsequent plethora of high schools across New Zealand & Australia in a vain attempt to keep up with what he cheekily described as 'divorced parent syndrome'. Whilst it did take 2 previous marriages, Evan finally found the love of his life in Elizabeth, marrying in March of 2008. Evan served 7 years in the Royal Australian Navy in the 1980's, transitioning to a profession as a paramedic in both West Australia and Queensland. By his own admission, Evan had a passion for pushing his physical and mental boundaries and never abandoned hope of being his own version of his inner Superman. This was punctuated with over 40 years of participation in endurance and extreme events. As he would say, "The greater the adventure the greater the thrill - even if the temperature is below freezing point". Since marrying Elizabeth he was never alone in his pursuits. Elizabeth was Evan's greatest fan. Evan was a unique soul, and from his own admission, somewhat of an enigma. He freely admits to a history of trying to please all of the people all of the time. However, with unconditional love and support from Elizabeth, he realised the error of his ways, taking leave to focus his love on every minute spent with his awesome Wife. Evan anticipates he "may be missed" (at the time of writing his own death notice!). Further, he asserts to those who have read this far that the frequency with which he uses complex spreadsheets for simple tasks, extending through to an alleged overuse of the words 'cognisant', 'propensity' and 'notwithstanding' are those likely to have understood his inner workings the most.
Evan's funeral will be held at St. Andrew's Uniting Church, 299 Ann Street, Brisbane on Friday 6th October 2023 at 10:00am. A wake will be held afterwards at the Normanby Hotel, 1 Musgrave Road, Red Hill, commencing at 12 noon, where we will celebrate his life.
