A tribute to...

Karen Moore

Eulogy delivered by Adam Moore

Aunty Karen Elizabeth Moore was born in the little country town of Eudunda, South Australia on the 6th of July 1950.

Beloved daughter to Iris and Ian. Younger sister to David. Aunty to Adam and Troy, Maggie and Heidi. Great aunty to Jess, Alistair, Jenny, Quillam, Angel, Gypsy Rose and Indigo. Great Aunty to Alina and Cooper. Adopted sister to Julie. Friend to us all.

Starting her schooling in the country at Naracoorte, then on to Tailem Bend in her younger years, finally attending high school in Murray Bridge.

Karen followed the railways. Where Pop was stationed, that was where she was going to get her education.

When career choices came, she was destined to become a nurse. Caring for people was always in her blood. Starting her nursing training at Mt Gambier, then moving to the big smoke of Adelaide, working as a theatre nurse at many different hospitals, such as Thebarton Community, Parkwynd and St Andrews, dedicating nearly 50 years of nursing care to so many.

In 1979, Karen finally had a place to call hers. A little unit in John Street at Ascot Park, only one street away from Nan and Pop's in Third Avenue. Karen never wanted to be too far from family.

She had many interests and Troy will share some great stories with us. From having a punt on the races, a love of cricket and of course her beloved Crows. Karen never missed a game and had a collection of Crow's memorabilia that had to be seen to be believed.

Many may not know about her MG Convertible, being such a tall lady, we always did wonder how she got into it. She loved that car but never toyed with the idea of giving it to me when I got my licence.

Karen loved to travel and spend time with her family and friends at the famous Suva club. From cruises to a range of holiday destinations, with stories I can't repeat here but those of you who travelled with her, always had a blast of a time.

Karen was a brave woman, she got that from her Mum - Nan. You will all remember that silly decision to jump out of a plane on Nan's 90th birthday. No way was I doing it, but Karen, Nan and Troy all suited up and down they went. Probably one of the biggest smiles I have ever seen on all their faces, especially Aunty Karen. What an achievement.

Karen's dedication to our family, especially Nan and Pop, was to be admired. When Pop passed away in 2005, Karen took on the main role to our dear Nan, supporting Nan to see her reach the milestone age of 100 years old, just simply outstanding. Karen put her own health on hold to ensure Nan was cared for. A true nurse.

Karen battled many health issues throughout her life but never let any of them stop her from doing what she wanted, and she never complained about her ailments, she got on with life.

Karen and Nan were more than mother and daughter, they were best friends and will always be.

Aunty Karen will be sadly missed by us all, but her spirit will live on through our fond memories whilst rubbing those little Buddha bellies.

Rest in Peace Aunty Karen xx

Eulogy delivered by Justin and Leonie Kerley

We send our love and hugs to Aunty Iris, David, Adam, Troy, Julie and family, from the other side of the world, and our thoughts and apologies we cannot be with you at this sad time.

Karen was very close to all of us in Sydney. She visited us often with Aunty Iris. She was a big personality with the biggest of hearts. She was always putting others before herself, and always a great character for a laugh.

Generous to a T, she was such a great support to her immediate family, especially her Mum, Iris, Julie, David, Adam and Troy who all adored her. Karen was the shining support person to her mum for everything she needed. They did so much together, travelled, laughed and cried. They had a beautiful bond together.

Karen was never one to complain and a tower of strength to those around her. She had many health issues and obstacles she overcame throughout her life without fanfare, which is the way she rolled, such was her strength. Karen will be terribly missed and always loved by all of us. We have lost one of the Golden Girls. We are heartbroken but will always be grateful for Karen's love and spirit.

To Aunty Iris - know we all love you and are thinking of you today and always.

Love and prayers,

Justin, Leonie, Nelson, Lachlan and Harrison
